Recent Wii U Sales Figures Encouraging

wii_uOver on NintendoLife they’re reporting some encouraging news from the recently released NPD December sales figures for the US. To summarise:

  • Wii U experienced its highest monthly unit sales figures (estimated around 500,000)
  • 3DS topped overall hardware sales for December and 2013 as a whole
  • Overall sales for 2013 in the US dropped by 2% compared to 2012

Excellent news on the 3DS front, showing there is still lots of love out there for dedicated handheld gaming units. Also good to see the Wii U moving in the right direction; with more big ticket releases due this year (Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros.), these figures should keep on improving which will hopefully see 3rd party devs getting back on board.

The takeaway: doubters are very much premature in writing off Nintendo as a hardware manufacturer; supporters take heart, the Wii U’s not dead yet!
